[Edit: The files can be found at the bottom, but please read the intro and terms of use. This website is likely to be at least the semi-permanent home of the Signal GK re-issue, and additional files will go up as they become available. If you want this to be done faster, I'd reccomend that you contact Leighton and volunteer, or at least let hum know you're interested and that he should keep up the good work. His contact info is at the bottom of this page, and registration with Citizens of the Imperium is free...]
Two years ago a thread on the COTI forum brought up the subject of the Signal-GK fanzine which was put together in the late 80s/early 90s. I picked up on the thread and offered to re-edit and re-publish the fanzine in PDF format. After some effort and loss of interest I offer the first three issues with the rest of the total thirteen issues to follow in due course.
Signal-GK was the baby of Jae Campbell and Duncan Law-Green. They were the primary force behind its emergence, it seemed as a development of their interest with HIWG (History of the Imperium Working Group). Apologies to both if I'm incorrect on any of the details. I was fortunate to be involved with the fanzine, contributing and involved in the editing, following on with my small involvement with HIWG
The primary objective was the mapping of a complete sector, Dagudashaag, and the generation of complete Library Data. Each issue concentrated on at least one subsector - later issues covered two subsectors. Together with other articles on Dag and scenarios linked to the sector, it was hoped that SGK would be the most comprehensive resource for any part of the Imperium. Issues were not meant to be version specific, with Classic, MegaTraveller and The New Era rules set covered at some point. Each author had their favourite version and it was hoped that the information would be easy enough to adapt to the readers' own preferences. That is why you will find a mix.
There were a number of contributors, with Jae, Duncan, Stuart Machin, NickWalker, Adie Stewart, David Burden and myself generating the largest share. We did it because we enjoyed the creative process. I have tried to keep theoriginal articles as they were published, all I've done is tried to correct any obvious errors, including the known errata (which itself has been kept in) and obviously standardised the presentation. Because of the nature of the copies I had, some of the artwork and maps reproduced poorly when scanned. Not being a good artist I had to take it as they came out. If anyone is willing to redo some artwork and/or maps...
At no time did we think of this as a business or make a quest for professionalism or profit. The fanzine made a loss - it was heavily subsidised by Jae, and would have folded a long time before issue 13 if it wasn't for him. It is in this sprit that I ask that you respect the intellectual property and copyright of the authors. Direct your friends and colleagues to these versions of the Signal-GK - The Fanzine, use them(and hopefully enjoy them) but please all I ask is that acknowledge the authors and do not claim their credit. I am not so worried about my own contributions but you must not use the articles for other than their intended purpose or reproduce them without express permission of the author(s).
One additional thing, all of the contact details in the re-issues are out-of-date. Don't try to contact anyone through the addresses, telephone numbers or e-mail addresses you find in the issues - you will not succeed.
Finally, apologies in advance to any errors of fact that appear within Signal-GK, specifically with the incorrect acknowledgment of authorship. I will correct as I am made aware of them.
If anyone needs to contact me about the issues, send me a private message through COTI Here (username: Leighton).
